In OILS, a central ultrasonic audio source is placed and modulated by orbiting surfaces to reflect, diffuse, and absorb a sound beam. Located within a small concrete passageway, the sculpture and sound move throughout the larger body, sound moving through the viewer, inviting reflection. In this work, MAF demonstrates the flexibility of sound: isolating words into a beam revealing how space, materiality, and structure can manipulate a message emerging from a sound source.
