MAF (Mental Alchemic Formations) is the creative concept and identity of artist, vocalist, composer, curator, writer, and DJ, Chris McWayne. MAF’s work centers on exploring voice and agency, often through the lens of non-human entities as both subjects and metaphors for communities marginalized or "othered" within society, with a particular focus on the Black experience.

MAF embodies the transformative power of creative energy—both positive and negative. Rooted in the principles of alchemy, Hermeticism, and Zen, the practice turns pain into growth, and lead into gold, embracing self-transformation as a core philosophy. Each project is a journey into self-discovery, building foundations that support new artistic structures and worlds that echo, mirror, and question our own.

The core of MAF is fluidity: everything flows, nothing remains static, and each creation embodies rhythm and motion.
